New Delhi: Sheila Dikshit, who ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row seems to have faced the brunt of the faulty policies of the Congress-led government at the Centre, which not only led to the ruling party’s huge defeat in Delhi elections, but also led to her defeat in New Delhi constituency.

Delhi polls results suggest that Dikshit, who was defeated by debutant Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency with a whooping 25,684 votes was brought down by the image of the Congress party, which has been marred with the 2G spectrum scam, Coal blocks allocation scam, economy policies and spiraling prices.

Well, it’s just not the central government the sole reason for Congress’ worst ever performance in Delhi, but Dikshit’s statements on the rape incidents, onion, tomato prices also led to her defeat.

Dikshit has always tried to shift the blame – as she did during the 2012 Delhi-gang rape incident when she said that Delhi Police comes under the Union government and it’s their job to provide security. Similarly, when onion and tomato prices touchéd Rs 80-100 in the national capital, she blamed hoarding of the kitchen staple in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and rains in number of states for escalating rates and asked the opposition not to politicise the issue.

Undoubtedly, Dikshit has been the symbol of development in Delhi, but this time it seems she failed to gauge the mood of the Delhiites.

Delhi threw up a hung Assembly on Sunday after a bitterly fought three-way election that crushed the Congress and brought the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within handshaking distance of power, denying it a clear victory because of a spectacular showing by the debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The BJP's (31 seats) celebrations were muffled by the fact that it did not have a clear majority in the 70-member Assembly, with the AAP winning a stunning 28 seats and the Congress relegated to a poor third with eight seats.
