Mumbai: Leading sports carmaker Ferrari has rolled out a new turbocharged variant of its famed California model, that dates back its origins to the 1950s, with a V8 engine at Rs 3.4 crore.
The head of sales for Ferrari West Asia and Africa, Aurelien Sauvard said the company has received eight bookings so far for the new model from the country where already around 50 cars are on the road.
He said the company hopes to make delivery over the next three-four months depending on the colour and extra features.
"We are looking at selling around 20 cars this year here," Sauvard said, adding two cars-- F12-Berlinetta and 458-Speciale -- were delivered last week in the country. Globally, Ferrari sold 7,300 units in 2014.
He also said the company is not averse to adding one more dealer in the country provided there is demand. Currently it has two dealerships, one each in Delhi and Mumbai.
The company today appointed a new dealer - Navnit Motors - in Mumbai and its showroom will come up in the Andria Kurla Complex area by October.
The new California T, powered by an 8-cylinder turbocharged engine, can gain a top speed of 316 kmph and can attain 100 kmph in 3.6 seconds, the company said here, adding it also offers 15 per cent more fuel efficiency.
The Ferrari California T symbolises elegance, sportiness, versatility and exclusivity. The carmaker launched the Californai model in the 1950s.
The new car offers direct-injection with a 3,855-cc turbocharged 8-cylinder engine mounted very low in the chassis in the mid-front and delivers 412 kw at 7500 rpm, or a power output of 107 kw/litre, which is the highest in its segment.
The California T features a revised body design to match the new engines performance and boasts of a refined cabin and a retractable hard top. Its sleek proportions are penned by the Ferrari Styling Centre in collaboration with Pininfarina.
