New Delhi: Budget carrier Air India Express Friday said it plans to recruit 40 trainee pilots and majority of them would be from Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA).

Rae Bareli-based IGRUA, which comes under Civil Aviation Ministry, has not seen placement activity since 2012 when some students were hired by Air India.

Air India Express is operated by Air India Charters Ltd, which is a subsidiary of national carrier Air India.

Air India Charters plans to hire 40 trainee pilots and majority of them would be from IGRUA, its Chief of Human Resources, T Vijayakrishnan told PTI.

The institute received a letter from Air India Charters dated July 16, 2015 saying that it proposes to source some of the trainee pilots from among the graduates of the institute, IGRUA spokesperson Ram Kishor Dwivedi said.

"It is a great news for the students. The institute has not seen any placement since 2012 when Air India had recruited some of our students. Indigo came last year but unfortunately no hiring was done" he said.

The issue of placement at the institute was brought to the notice of Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju during his recent visit there, Dwivedi said.

The institute is located in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
