New Delhi: A 30-year-old taxi driver was on Friday shot dead allegedly by four car-borne armed assailants near IGI airport here, police said.

The incident took place around 2:15 PM near a five-star hotel close to the airport.

The victim, identified as Darshan, a resident of Mahipalpur area in South Delhi, was standing at a temple when four men reached the spot and opened fire on him from a close range.

"Around six to seven shots were fired at him out of which two bullets hit him. The assailants then fled the spot in their car. Locals informed police after which he was rushed to Safdarjung hospital where he was declared brought dead," said a senior police official.

Eyewitnesses have told us that the assailants were four in number. Prima facie it seems to be a case of personal enmity. We have registered a case of murder at IGI Airport police station and the body has been sent for postmortem.

Further investigations were on, police said.
