Srinagar: Election authorities have rescheduled the duration for polling in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency which is going to polls on Wednesday.
"According to returning officer Srinagar parliamentary constituency and approved by the Election Commission of India, the polling time in Srinagar constituency shall be from 7 am to 5 pm instead of 7 am to 6 pm," an official spokesman said here.
The spokesman did not divulge the reason for rescheduling of the poll timing in the constituency which has a history of low voter turnout since the eruption of militancy in the Valley in 1990.
However, official sources said the decision was taken keeping in view the law and order problems that took place in Anantnag Lok Sabha seat which went to polls on April 24.
Over two dozen security personnel were injured in clashes with stone pelting protesters on polling day in the constituency which also witnessed a militant attack on a poll party after polling ended, leaving one polling official dead and five other persons injured.
