New Delhi: A known critic of Narendra Modi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party leader for his party's superb performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

While congratulating Modi and the BJP for its emphatic win, Digvijay said that the people have given their mandate to them and now its their responsibility to deliver on the poll promises.

Taking a cue from Modi's election campaign slogan, the AICC general secretary said, achhe din laiye."

Here's Digvijay's tweet:

The trends show that Modi has delivered a stunner. With the NDA set to win over 327 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, the Gujarat strongman has got the mandate he asked the nation for. The BJP itself is expected to win over 272 seats, leaving no scope for any error in delivering the change the teeming millions of the country are looking for.

The Congress, India's oldest political party which had ruled India for a decade since 2004 at the head of the UPA, appeared set for an unprecedented rout.

Information from the Election Commission indicated a BJP sweep in northern, western and central India, and the party was also making gains in states where it has been traditionally weak.
