Notable achievements:Jayawardene is one of only five batsmen -- the others being Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Kumar Sangakkara -- to score more than 11,000 runs in both Test and one-day cricket.
- Jayawardene and Sangakkara hold the record for the highest partnership in Test cricket: 624 for the third wicket against South Africa in Colombo in 2006. Jayawardene scored 374 and Sangakkara made 287.
- Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera also have the highest partnership for the fourth wicket: 437 against Pakistan in Karachi in 2009. Jayawardene scored 240 and Samaraweera 231.
- His 205 Test catches are second only to Indian Rahul Dravid`s tally of 210 by a fielder other than a wicket-keeper.
- Jayawardene captained Sri Lanka in 38 Tests, winning 18, losing 12 with 8 drawn.
- Jayawardene has played 420 one-day internationals and scored 11,681 runs at an average of 32.90 with 16 centuries. He hopes to keep playing one-day matches till next year`s World Cup.
- Jayawardene also played in 55 Twenty20 internationals before quitting the shortest format in April. He scored 1,493 runs with one century and a strike-rate of 133.18 runs per 100 balls.
