London: Former England cricketer Paul Farbrace is reportedly expected to be named as England`s new assistant coach after he resigned from the position of Sri Lanka`s head coach after just a few months of joining.
The former Kent wicket-keeper, who had signed a two-year term with Sri Lanka that was to include the 2015 World Cup, has been linked to the post of assistant coach to Peter Moores, who was named England`s chief coach last week replacing Andy Flower.
According to the BBC, although the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has yet to confirm Farbrace`s appointment, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that Farbrace has left his position as national coach `to take up an appointment with ECB`.
The report mentioned that under Farbrace, Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup one-day tournament and took the World Twenty20 title after beating India in the final in Dhaka earlier this month.
Sri Lanka is searching for their seventh coach in four years, including Trevor Bayliss, Stuart Law, Rumesh Ratnayake, Geoff Marsh, Graham Ford and Farbrace, before they head to England next month for two Tests and a limited-overs series, the report added.
