Chittagong: England have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their World Twenty20 group one match against Sri Lanka in Chittagong, the International Cricket Council said Friday.
England beat world number one T20 side Sri Lanka by six wickets courtesy of a whirlwind 64-ball 116 not out by opener Alex Hales at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Thursday.
"The ICC match referee David Boon of Australia imposed the fines after the side, led by Stuart Broad, was ruled to be two overs short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration," an ICC release said.
Under ICC rules players are fined 10 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
"As such, Broad was fined 40 percent of his match fee, while his players received 20 percent fines.
"If Broad is found guilty of one more minor over-rate offence in T20 internationals over the next 12 months, he will receive a one-match suspension as per the provisions of the ICC code for players and support staff," the ICC said.
South Africa were also fined for a slow over-rate in their game against New Zealand on Monday.
England face South Africa in their next match after New Zealand play the Netherlands in a double-header on Saturday -- both in Chittagong.
England have one win out of two matches, the same as New Zealand, while South Africa and Sri Lanka have two wins in three matches.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-final. The final will be played in Dhaka on April 6.
