Public airing of problems catalyst for ‘new era’ of Oz cricket: ArthurSydney: Australian coach Mickey Arthur has said that the public airing of the disciplinary problems of the Australian team was not ideal but hoped that it may be a catalyst for a new era of success for Australian cricket.

Third-ranked Australia on Thursday made four changes to their line-up for the third Test against India in Mohali, of which the first day was washed out by rain, following this week`s shock suspension of four players for failing to complete homework assignments.

Arthur, whose decision to ban Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja was made in partnership with captain Michael Clarke and team manager Gavin Dovey, said that the team has moved on and is in a good place.

Although the coach stated that he disliked that the issue had become public because of the involvement of more than one player, he is ready to accept the issue if it becomes the catalyst to push the team back into the No.1 position in the world.

Stating that the team management had given the players a year to set the team culture and resolve all their issues, Arthur said that he felt that his team was on the right path despite trailing 2-0 in the four-match series.

Defending his decision to axe the four players, Arthur said that to make his team the best in the world, it is necessary to shift some cultural and attitude changes, although he admitted that the incident was minor as compared to the greater scheme of things.
