Zee Media Bureau/Dattaraj ThalyNew Delhi: Exiled England batsman Kevin Pietersen has advised Indian batsmen to try and sign up for state teams in Australia before India`s tour down under.
The former England skipper made his view public via his official Twitter account. He specifically mentioned Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammed Shami as they do not regularly feature in India`s ODI team.
Pietersen, who represents Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League is known to be close to several members of the Indian cricket team.
Before India`s England tour began, the 34-year-old wrote a column in a reputed English daily about the new Indian Test team. Pietersen singled out Virate Kohli, Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara as the key Indian batters who looked hungry to score big runs in the five Test series.
It all looked going to Pietersen`s script when Vijay scored a hundred at Trent Bridge and India went on to complete a historic win at Lord`s in the second Test. But the last three Tests witnessed a capitulation by the famed Indian batting line-up and the visitors surrendered the 1-0 advantage to lose the series 1-3.
India will travel to Australia to play 4 Tests as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The tour begins on with the first Test on December 4 in Brisbane. The last time India played a Test series in Australia, they were beaten 4-0.
However, the trophy currently belongs to India as they extracted revenge for their drubbing down under with a 4-0 series win against the Aussies in 2012-13.
