Srinagar: Union Minister Farooq Abdullah has been elected as the president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) amidst walkout by some `disgruntled` members of the body.

"Abdullah was elected unopposed as the president of the JKCA for another three-year term during the elections held here yesterday," an official of the JKCA said today.

The 76-year-old Union Minister had earlier said he would not be seeking another term so that someone else takes over the reins of the Association, which governs cricket affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.

The JKCA official said the members present during the election were unanimous that Abdullah should continue to lead the association for at least one more term.

As many as 18 members of the 64-member association staged a walkout before the elections were held to protest the way the affairs of JKCA have been handled in the recent years. M L Nehru was elected General Secretary while Arminder Singh Micky was elected as chairman of the association.

Ghulam Muhammad (Treasurer), former cricketer Idrees Gandroo (Joint Secretary Kashmir), Sudershan Mehta (Joint Secretary Jammu), G M Ronga (vice-chairman Kashmir) and Rakesh Kumar (vice-chairman Jammu) were the other office bearers elected yesterday.

The JKCA also re-instated Saleem Khan, who had to step down in the wake of multi-crore scam in the association in 2012, as Chief Administrative Officer.

The outgoing regime was elected in 2011 in which Abdullah, who has been heading the body since its inception in 1984, was re-elected as president, unopposed.
