Zee Media BureauNew Delhi: Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra used to bet regularly on matches, his business partner and alleged bookie Umesh Goenka has reportedly told the police.
A leading Indian daily cited police sources as saying that Goenka has revealed Kundra’s wife Shilpa Shetty was aware of her husband’s involvement in placing bets.
Goenka further said that Shetty asked him to place bets on her behalf. He also claims that Kundra introduced him to Rajasthan Royals’ Siddharth Trivedi, who is now a prosecution witness in the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.
The names of Kundra, who was questioned for 11 hours two days ago by police claiming that he had confessed to betting, and Shilpa, came in a statement recorded by his business partner Umesh Goenka, a bookie, during investigations into IPL spot-fixing scandal.
Asked about Delhi Police not invoking Gambling Act like its Mumbai counterparts which charged Vindoo Dara Singh and Gurunath Meiyappan, he said they do not have supporting evidence to arrest Kundra.
