London: West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison was freed on bail following a private court hearing on Monday over his detention on two charges of common assault, Britain`s Press Association reported.
The 21-year-old former Manchester United prospect is accused of assaulting his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend Reah Mansoor and her mother Parveen Mansoor, 39, following a night out in Manchester on July 26.
The England Under-21 international, who spent the weekend in custody, did not attend Monday`s hearing at Manchester Crown Court, where his lawyers made a bail application.
He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates` Court on Thursday. His bail conditions were not released to the media.
Morrison was tipped for stardom after progressing through Manchester United`s youth ranks, but disciplinary issues prompted former manager Alex Ferguson to sell him to West Ham for £650,000 ($1.1 million, 820,000 euros) in January 2012.
After spending the 2012-13 campaign on loan at second-tier Birmingham City, Morrison made a bright start to last season for West Ham, notably scoring a fine solo goal in a 3-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur.
But after a groin injury and a loss of form in mid-season, he was loaned to Queens Park Rangers, who he helped secure promotion from the Championship.
Morrison did not travel with West Ham on their recent pre-season tour of New Zealand as he had to undergo groin surgery.
