Euro 2012 was rock bottom, admits Van der VaartAmsterdam: Rafael van der Vaart has admitted that Euro 2012 was the lowest point of his Netherlands career, despite his insistence that he enjoyed a fine relationship with Bert van Marwijk.

The 60-year-old resigned with immediate effect following the Oranje`s disastrous European Championship, where they lost all of their group matches, amid reports of dressing-room unrest.

However, the Tottenham attacker refused to pin all the blame on Van Marwijk, adding that the players are also responsible for the poor results they accumulated in Poland and Ukraine.

"I don`t want to say too much about this, because of all the things that have been said and written in the past few days," Van der Vaart told De Telegraaf.

"The only thing I want to say about it is that we enjoyed successes together and made it into the World Cup final [two years ago]. Euro 2012 was rock-bottom, but we worked together just fine overall.

"The players are responsible for the results [at the European Championship], too. We had high expectations of the tournament, but things panned out differently.”

Van der Vaart had to settle for a spot on the bench against Denmark and Germany, before getting the nod against Portugal.
