Dublin: Giovanni Trapattoni will lead Ireland`s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign after the Italian manager signed a new two-year contract on Friday.
The former Italy manager took charge last year and his new deal will again be part-funded by Irish billionaire and Independent News & Media shareholder Denis O`Brien, the Football Association of Ireland said on its website.
"This squad has huge potential. Our results demonstrate what self-belief and structure can achieve and I am really looking forward to continuing the work we have begun," Trapattoni said in a statement.Ireland, unbeaten in competitive matches under the ex-Juventus boss, trail leaders Italy by four points in World Cup European qualifying Group Eight and hold a five-point lead over third-placed Bulgaria.
