London: The Chinese Olympic delegation said Wednesday that they respect the ruling of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), who suspended four women`s doubles pair for "not using one`s best efforts to win a match".
"It has been learned that Chinese badminton players Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli were disqualified by the WBF because they tried to lose a match on purpose. The Chinese delegation fully respect WBF`s decisions," the Chinese delegation said in a statement.
"The behaviour of Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli violated the principles of the Olympic movement and went against the spirit of fair play. It hurt our hearts. The Chinese Olympic Committee has always been firmly against any conduct that is against sportsmanship.
"We have launched an internal investigation into this matter and would take further action pending the results of the probe. Meanwhile, we have asked every Chinese athlete and every team to adhere to the Olympic principles, `safeguard the image of Chinese sports and make a contribution to the successful hosting of the London Games and the Olympic Movement as well."
