New Delhi: Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi on Wednesday lamented Indian hockey team`s miserable show in the Olympics and said the country`s performance in the game would improve if rural youths are given preference.
"There is a need to give more attention to hockey...Rural youth are not involved in this games...There are little opportunities for them...Our performance will improve, if rural youths are given more opportunities," the AICC general secretary told reporters here outside Parliament.
India started their Olympic campaign with a 2-3 loss against The Netherlands, followed by humiliating defeats against New Zealand (1-3), Germany (2-5), and South Korea (1-4) and finally slumped to a 0-3 defeat to Belgium.
