Ngangbam Soniya Chanu who hails from Manipur was selected by Indian Weightlifting Federation after Indian weightlifters had earned two quota places for London Olympics - one each in men`s and women`s sections.
It will be for the first time in eight years that India will be competing in the weightlifting competition at the Olympics.
She won the Gold medal at the 2009 and 2010 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Malaysia.
She was expected to win the Gold medal at the 2010 CWG in Delhi but had to be content with silver. At the 2012 Senior Asian Championships at Pyeongtaek, South Korea she claimed the Bronze medal.
