London Olympics: Qatar’s flag bearer to be female shooter Bahiya al-HamadDoha: Bahiya Al-Hamad will carry Qatar’s national flag at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics that will begin later this month.

Qatar Olympic Committee confirmed its decision on Wednesday.


Al-Hamad was also selected as Qatar’s flag-bearer during Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

The 19-year-old who will compete in the 10 metres pistol event is one of the four female athletes to have been selected for the Games.


"I am shaking with joy to be carrying the national flag of my country, Qatar, at the opening ceremony," al-Hamad was quoted as saying by a news agency.

"It is an historic moment for sport," she added.
