London: South Africa`s Cameron van der Burgh took the Olympic 100 metres breaststroke gold in a world record time Sunday.
Van der Burgh, 24, got a fast start and never looked like being caught, winning in 58.46, 0.05 seconds faster than Brenton Rickard`s 2009 mark.
"I don`t even know what to think. I don`t know how to describe it," Van der Burgh said.
"I`ve been working towards this goal. It`s amazing. I`ve been doing so much hard work over the last four years."
Christian Sprenger of Australia took the silver in 58.93, and America`s Brendan Hansen the bronze in 59.49.
