London: Fourteen-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps scraped into the final of the men`s 400 metres individual medley of the London Games Saturday, qualifying last in eighth.
The American sneaked into the final by just seven hundredths of a second, more than three seconds behind timesheet topper Kosuke Hagino of Japan. Hagino posted an Asian record of 4 minutes, 10.01 seconds. Phelps` archrival and teammate Ryan Lochte qualified in third. The final in the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre is later Saturday.
