We delivered, says happy Cameron London: British Prime Minister David Cameron today expressed delight at the successful conduct of the Games, where the hosts delivered the best performance in 104 years by winning 65 medals, including 29 gold, to take third slot in the medal tally.

Cameron addressed media along with Sebastian Coe, chief of the London Olympics Organising Committee, and said to ensure Britain`s continued success, the government would provide funding of 125 million every year to UK Sport until the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Cameron also announced the appointment of Coe as the UK?s Olympics Legacy Ambassador.

Coe, who won Olympic gold in 1980 and 1984, said he was "very happy" to drive the legacy forward.
Cameron said Coe had done a brilliant job delivering the best Games ever.

"Now I want him to help me deliver the best Olympic legacy ever."

Expressing happiness at the successful conduct of the Olympics, Cameron said Britain had "astonished the world".

"Britain delivered -- we showed the world what we`re made of. We reminded ourselves what we can do and, yes, we demonstrated that you should never ever count Team GB down and out."
Cameron also thanked Olympics volunteers, members of the Armed Forces, police and others who made the Games possible, describing them as `the very best of Britain.

"The volunteers, members of the armed forces, police and others who worked on the Games are the ones who made them possible. These people not only gave up their time but brought a phenomenal energy and passion to the streets and to Olympic venues up and down the country."

"The passion and professionalism of the volunteers has been matched by the fantastic work of the Armed Forces and the Police, who have worked tirelessly to deliver a safe and secure Games.

"I am delighted to be giving a commemorative coin to everyone who helped to deliver the biggest peacetime security operation this country has ever seen," Cameron added

Cameron is scheduled to go abroad on summer holiday tomorrow.
