New York: Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was fined $12,000 by the National Football League on Friday for making an obscene gesture toward the Washington Redskins` bench during a pre-season road loss Monday.
Manziel, the much-hyped US collegiate star nicknamed "Johnny Football", motioned toward his opponents with an upraised middle finger on his right hand.
The incident took place in the third quarter when Manziel was forced out of bounds on the Washington side of the field as he was walking back toward his teammates.
The Browns named Brian Hoyer the team`s starting quarterback this week, relegating Manziel to a reserve role as Cleveland prepares for the opening of the NFL season in two weeks.
