Zach Parise picked to captain Team USA for Sochi Games
Zach Parise, who won a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Games, was named captain of the US men`s ice hockey team for the Sochi Olympics on Friday.

The 29-year old from Minneapolis was one of the United States` top players four years ago in Vancouver where he served as an alternate captain.

In the men`s hockey tournament final against Canada, Parise scored the game-tying goal with 24 seconds left in the third to send the gold medal game into overtime. Sidney Crosby then scored the game winner to lift Canada to a 3-2 win.

Parise finished third in the tournament in scoring with four goals and eight points.

He is also the son of former NHL All-Star J.P. Parise, who played for Canada in the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union.

In 41 games this season with the NHL`s Minnesota Wild, Parise has 18 goals and 34 points. He missed 14 games with a broken left foot, returning to the Wild lineup just last week.

Parise`s Minnesota teammate, Ryan Suter, and Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown were named alternate captains.

Brown is in his sixth season as captain of the Kings. Both he and Suter were alternate captains four years ago in Vancouver.
