Zeenews Sports BureauMelbourne: Maria Sharapova maintained her ruthless charge to a second Australian Open title by beating her compatriot Ekaterina Makarova on Tuesday to advance to the semi-final of the event. The second seeded Russian took 66 minutes to overpower her opponent into submission thereby continuing her flawless reign in the current event. "Today was a matter of staying focused because I know how excited she was to play me," Sharapova was quoted as saying after the match by a news agency. "No matter what our record is, we always have close matches," she said.
