Melbourne: Stanislas Wawrinka, the newly crowned Australian Open champion after his sensational win over World No.1 Rafael Nadal is happy to be crowned the new World No.3.

After the official ATP rankings were declared on Monday, Wawrinka tweeted,

Stanislas won the match defeating Spaniard Rafa Nadal 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3 in the Australian Open final at the Rod Laver Arena. In their previous 12 meetings, Wawrinka had never won a set against Rafa, leave alone a match. Their head to head record was 12-0. However, Stan was in a stupendous form after defeating second seed and four-time champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

Also, after his win Wawrinka became the first man in 21 years to beat the top two players en route to a grand slam title.
