Nadal, Djokovic: Two 'Angry Birds' at French Open final

Paris: Twice rain came to halt the proceedings at Roland Garros on Sunday. The first one proved to be a brief interruption while the second forced the officials to postpone what was shaping to be a classic finale.
By the time the covers were called, Nadal was leading 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 1-2.
Red hot Spanish matador, Rafael Nadal, was in top form taking the first two sets away from the gritty Serbian, Novak Djokovic. The final was moving in favour of the Spaniard as he quickly pocketed the second set with a brilliant forehand after rain had delayed his charge for 35 minutes. He was looking set for a record-breaking seventh French Open title as he led 6-4 6-3 with just a set between him and the victory.
But the Serb, as he is known, again providing a show of his ‘never say die’ attitude came back to claim the third set 6-2 and was leading in the fourth 2-1.
Far from proving to be a one-sided affair, the final is now shaping up for a thrilling finish with both the opponents looking to outdo other and determined to lift the trophy and this was quite evident from their frustrations.
Novak twice lost his temper as he lost control of his game, throwing his racquet once. An advertising carbonated water sign then had to bear the brunt of his anger on another occasion as he smashed it with his racquet during the second set.
Not to be left behind, Nadal showed his soaring anger over the continuing drizzle that made the court slippery. To his relief, the officials decided to call off the match for the day that meant the duo returned on Monday to bring the duel to a fitting end.
In the end, it was Nadal who created history by clinching his seventh French Open title, surpassing Bjorn Borg's tally of six titles. He defeated Djokovic in four sets 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 after a light drizzle again interrupted the match on the second day as well before Court Philippe Chatrier bathed in bright sunshine.
