'The shot' which stunned Rafael Nadal!Zeenews Sports Bureau

Paris: World No. 1 Novak Djokovic once again proved why he deserves the numero uno position as he fought back against Spaniard Rafael Nadal in men’s singles finals of French Open 2012 on Sunday.

The Serb who was trailing by two sets and then 0-2, smashed a shot right into the baseline as Rafa was stunned with his service being broken for the first time in the game.

The crowd wholeheartedly cheered that point and the facial expression of Nadal described the quality of that shot from the Super Serb.

It was probably ‘the shot’ that turned the tide in Djokovic’s favour and the crowd at the Roland Garros was once again reminded of the extraordinary tennis which Nole has been playing over the last 14 months!

It was one moment where Nadal was taken by surprise and the Serb made it sure that it was Nadal who remained frustrated for the rest of the game as he won eight consecutive games matching the Spaniard, shot by shot before rain interrupted the proceedings.

When the match was temporarily suspended, the frustration was visible on Nadal’s face as he argued with the match referee for not suspending the match when rain stalled the match for the first time.

The French Open was won by Nadal and not the soon-to-be dethroned world No. 1? The only reason Djokovic won the 3rd set was because of the rain that made the balls heavier and made the court lose is bounce. Monday saw order restored as the rain had gone and the courts were dry once more.

rain was the most probable reason for nadal losing 8 games in a row..
Rafa`s game is built on athleticism which was a disadvantage once it started to rain. It is just that Djoker`s game is much better suited than Rafa`s under slippery conditions..

Rafa played at Roland Garros final with absolute confidence. There was never any doubt or tension for him on the outcome. On the other hand, Novak also played great tennis but we can see tension and frustration on his face throughout the match. It was not fair to ask them to play with such unplayable court conditions especially in such a historical final. Like some commented on Madrid blue court, playing conditions may be same for both the players with one player dominating and the other losing his touch. But the question is not on the ability of a player to adjust his play in such bad conditions. The point in question is that the court conditions should be conducive for normal play. Then it is for the players to adjust or elevate their game for a win. Let us not comment that X,Y Or Z is great when the court playing conditions are not normal playing conditions. I feel that Novak and Rafa in the present day tennis are extraordinary players and it is impossible to predict an outcome for their match till the last point is played. Roger is also a great but his age has an adverse impact on his game now. But he will be on the scene for a couple of years to pose impediments to Rafa and Novak at times, which adds some more spice to men`s tennis. All the best to Rafa and Novak’s memorable friendly rivalry.

Tennis a game of physical endurance and strategy...plus a test of true composure...I like both players, Nadal and Novak, but what Novak displayed in terms of attitude and temper shows his negative side..Rafa is always the cool and mature player...win or lose he is still the same person, that is why he is loved by people all around the world....he deserves the title King of Clay....well done Rafa...go for more...Congratulations!

the only reason why the serb won 8 games was becoz during the rain the balls became heavier making it more difficult for Nadal to hit his natural heavy top spin . Of course on a dry clay surface the truth unfolds.
