Rain halts play in final Italy v Britain rubber

Naples: Rain forced the postponement of play in the final Davis Cup quarter-final singles rubber between Andreas Seppi and James Ward on Sunday.

The tie is level at 2-2 after Italian number one Fabio Fognini earlier stunned Britain`s two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

It means Ward has to beat Seppi if Britain are to reach the Davis Cup semi-finals in the World Group for the first time in 33 years.

If Seppi prevails, Italy will reach the last four for the first time since 1998 when they went on to finish runners-up to Sweden,

Play was stopped on the red clay of Tennis Club Napoli with Seppi leading 5-4 in the opening set, during which both players broke three times.
