Bangalore: Fifth seed Rushmi Chakravarthi survived some anxious moments before coming from behind to defeat local girl Anushree Thammanna 2-1 in first round of the USD 10,000 QuestNet ITF Women`s Open.
Anushree started on a positive note by breaking Rushmi twice in the opening set which she won 6-1, but latter took charge of the proceedings in the next two sets.
Rushmi won 6-1, 6-0 to round off the tally.
Meanwhile, Japan`s Moe Kawatoko ousted second seed, compatriot Anastasia Malhotra 6-3, 6-3 in first round.
The first set was full of unforced errors as both the players failed to hold their serves until the sixth game.
In the end, Kawatoko`s baseline game proved too good for Anastasia.
Anastasia, ranked 475 in the world, played an erratic game in the second and gifted the match to her opponent, the world number 944, whose patience paid off.
