London: Tennis star Serena Williams has promised big sister Venus that she’ll fight for family glory after avoiding another Court Two disaster during Wimbledon 2012.
Twenty four hours after watching her sibling crash out in the first round of the tennis tournament thanks to Elena Vesnina, Serena ensured there would be no repeat on the same court with a 6-2 6-4 win over Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
“It always has some sort of effect. I always want to play even better if she’s out of the tournament,” Serena was quoted a s saying.
Serena, 30, is seeded to meet defending champion Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals.
Between the two, the Williams sisters have won the Wimbledon title nine times, while Serena reckons Monday’s shock result can actually enhance her own prospects.
