Raipur: Noisy scenes were witnessed for the second consecutive day during the ongoing monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly after the treasury bench demanded an apology from state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel for his remarks about Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal.
The Congress legislators were suspended twice on Tuesday after they trooped into well of the House demanding a discussion on an adjournment motion about irregularities?in issuance and distribution of ration cards in the state.
Soon after the question hour, Baghel raised the issue of notice on the resolution to remove the Speaker in connection with his alleged involvement in a land encroachment case.
He said that the Opposition had given notice under Rule 145(1) of Assembly proceedings to the Secretary of the Chhattisgarh state Assembly and the Chair ought to take a decision in this connection.
Thereafter, Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal said that as per rules, to move a no-confidence motion or a removal resolution, a notice should be issued before 14 days of ending the session.
The monsoon session of the Assembly is scheduled to be held until July 25 and since Opposition members had submitted their resolution on July 21, no permission could be granted to present it.
Later, Baghel sought a discussion on cancellation of fake ration cards in the state through an adjournment motion.
However, Chhattisgarh Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and other ruling BJP members asked Baghel to apologise for his comments about the Speaker which he made in the House yesterday.
Reacting to the minister's statement, Congress members said that the treasury bench does not wish to discuss irregularities in issuing ration cards and therefore it is diverting the issue.
