New Delhi/Lucknow: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Tuesday, announced its candidates for the Manipur Lok Sabha seat and 10 assembly seats where bypolls are scheduled to be held on September 13.
The BJP has chosen Prem Singh Shakya to take on SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s grandnephew Tej Pratap Singh Yadav from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in the bypoll.
Candidates for Assembly seats: Vimla Batham (Noida), Jagdish Vyas (Hamirpur), Santosh Patel (Sirathu), Rajeev Gumber (Saharanpur Nagar), Hemendra Pal Singh (Bijnor), Rajpal Chauhan (Thakurdwara), Ramkumar Verma (Nighasan), Gopal Tandon (Lucknow East), Geeta Singh (Charkhari) and Akshaywar Lal Gaur (Balha).

The announcement came a day after the Congress, which is going alone in the polls announced its list.
Congress candidates: Mukesh Chaoudhary (Saharanpur Nagar), Rajinder Awana (Noida), Ramesh Srivastava (Lucknow East), Humayun Baig (Bijnore), Mohd Ullah (Thakurdwara), Shiv Bhagwan (Nighasan), Ramjivan Dada (Charkhan), Keshav Babu Shivhare (Hamirpur), Lal Chand Kushwaha (Sirathu), Shyamta Prasad (Balha) and Bhavana Patel (Rohaniya).
The process of filing nominations has already started and the last date for filing of nomination papers in August 27.
The ruling Samajwadi party has announced candidates for the assembly bypoll. The list includes:
Sanjay Garg (Saharanpur Nagar), Nawab Jaan Khan (Thakurdwara), Shiv Charan Prajapati (Hamirpur), Shabbir Ahmad Valmiki (Balha), Jushi Singh (Lucknow East) and Kunwar Rani Ruchibira (Bijnor), Vachaspati Pasi (Sirathu), Kaptan Singh Rajput (Chakhari) and Mahendra Singh Patel (Rohania).
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has bowed out of the race citing its principle of not contesting bypolls.
The stakes are highest for the BJP as most of these were held by the party and fell vacant after the MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha.
Counting of votes will be held on September 16.
