New Delhi: Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and Congress leader Virbhadra Singh has said that exposing corruption, misgovernance and anti-people policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled government would be his main agenda during the upcoming State Assembly polls.
"We want to expose the Bharatiya Janata Party's corruption, misgovernance, anti- people policies, and the way the land, air and water of Himachal Pradesh have been sold off by them, their ministers and their aides. This shall be a big issue," said Singh, while reacting to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's progressive agenda for the upcoming Assembly polls.
"The level of corruption and the misuse of natural resources; all these shall be our issues. Our plan is once we come back to power all these issues will be probed," he added.
Dhumal had earlier said that he would raise the issue of corruption and the ''anti-Himachal'' decisions taken by the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre during the upcoming Assembly polls.
Dhumal, who was talking to mediapersons in Shimla after the Election Commission finalised the dates for elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, said that his state has been denied the special financial assistance
"Industrial package was terminated prematurely, the railway line expansion projects made no headway, food and kerosene quota under PDS was reduced and step-motherly treatment was meted out by the 13th Finance Commission to the state," he said.
Dhumal alleged that the ruling Congress Party at the Centre was at the present neck-deep in trouble on the issue of corruption.
Asserting that the BJP would expose the ruling Congress Party on the corruption issue, Dhumal said that the 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam and the coal scam have not only deprived the country of billions of rupees, but also brought shame to the nation
The single-phase election in Himachal Pradesh will take place on November 4 this year, while the two-phase polls will take place in Gujarat on December 13 and 17.
Counting for both the states will take place on December 20.
In the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election, the notification will be issued on the 10th of this month. The last date for nomination is 17th and scrutiny will take place the next day. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 20th of this month. For the two-phase Gujarat Assembly polls, notification will be issued on November 17 for the first phase and November 23 for the second phase.
The last date for filing of nominations is on November 24 for first phase while it is November 30 for the second phase. Scrutiny will take place on November 26 for the first phase while for the second phase it is December 01.
Withdrawal of candidatures can be done till November 28 for first phase while it is December 03 for the second phase. The term of Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh expires on January 10 next year and the term of Gujarat Assembly is expiring on January 17 next year.
