Srinagar: Separatist guerrillas on Friday evening fired at a patrol party of the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, triggering a gunfight, police said. The exchange of fire was continuing after 9 pm.

A senior police officer said a patrol party of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the special operations group (SOG) of the state police was fired upon by militants in Gujarpati (Zaloora) village of Baramulla, 65 km from here.

"Security forces have returned the militant fire. Intermittent firing exchanges are still on in the area," the officer said.
