Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Wednesday hit out at the Madhya Pradesh government over rising onion prices.

Taking on the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government, Digvijay said that onions are being stocked up in godowns in parts of Madhya Pradesh, but the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government is not doing anything.

The Congress leader’s statement comes a day after Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that Centre may import onion to stabilise prices that have soared to Rs 90 per kg in Delhi.

He also expressed hope that the prices would stabilise with the arrival of fresh domestic products by December-end.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, Sharma blamed hoarders for the recent spike in prices.

Onion prices soared to Rs 90 per kg in the national capital and they are being sold at around Rs 80 per kg in other parts of the country. The prices have more than doubled in the past four months.
