Bhopal: With the Vyapam scam hitting the credibility of his government, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday slammed Congress for attempting to undermine his reputation by accusing him of involvement in the teachers recruitment scam in the state.
Hitting out at the Congress party, the Chief Minister said, “There have been continuous efforts by Congress to defame my govt by making false allegations.”
“I requested the Hon'ble Speaker to take Congress's motion on Vyapam for discussion today itself. As soon as I proposed a discussion on the matter, the opposition tried to run away from it,” Chouhan said.
The BJP leader also said that he has provided a clean and corruption-free governance in his state so the people will understand who is lying and who is speaking the truth.
“Why wait for tomorrow or any other day. We have done our best to book the guilty and cleanse the system. People must know who is lying,” he tweeted.
The reactions from the MP Chief Minister came in view of serious allegations made by the Congress party, which accused him and his wife Sadhana Singh of being involved in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam.
Several political parties, including the CPI-M, had termed the scam as one of the worst scams in the history of Madhya Pradesh.
Amid growing demand to hand over the MPPEB scam probe to CBI, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti also said the accused involved in the case should not be spared at any cost.
The Congress had earlier alleged that Uma Bharti had recommended names of candidates for contractual teacher exam conducted by the MPPEB and claimed that some top RSS leaders were also involved in it.
When her name cropped up in the scam in December 2013 in a section of media, Uma Bharti rushed back to Bhopal and met State Director General of Police (DGP) Nandan Dube on the issue. However, the Special Task Force probing the scam had later issued a statement clarifying that she had no role in it.
The STF had arrested former state technical education minister and BJP leader Laxmikant Sharma on June 15 for his alleged involvement in contractual teachers recruitment scam.
Over 100 students, who allegedly cleared the Pre-Medical Test (PMT) through unfair means, had also been arrested by STF from different districts of the state.
PMT was conducted by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, whose top officials were already arrested by STF since the scam surfaced in 2013.
