Kendrapara: An Indian Airforce staffer of the Bhopal-based Tactical Air Centre gives financial support to meritorious students of Orissa's Kendrapara district from his own pocket.

The 26-year-old staffer, Badal Kumar Singh, from Bira Nilakanthapur under Derabish block in the district provides Rs 100 a month to deserving students of eighth standard. "I faced financial hurdles during studies. My parents were from a lower middle class background. I was lucky to get a job," Singh said.

"Poverty sometimes comes in the way of many meritorious students. That's why I resolved to take up the cause of poor students," Singh said.

He said after securing employment in 2004 he founded the Prativa Samman Trust a year later to help poor students. "I diverted savings from my salary to the trust. I used the interest accrued from it for giving scholarships," Singh said.
