Washington: The US and China have been reportedly found to be the two top countries in the world relaying spam to Internet users.

A report by Naked Security blog by Sophos has revealed that the US generated 14.5 percent of the total spam volume sent during the last quarter of 2013, while China came close second for generating 8.2 percent of the world's spam.

According to Enterprise Innovation, the Dirty Dozen list includes countries like Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, India and South Korea among others.

Sophos Senior Security Analyst, Paul Ducklin said that the most obvious message from the Dirty Dozen charts is that the problem of zombified computers spewing spam is a truly global one, adding that every region of the world is strongly represented, with the exception of Africa.

Sophos said that spammers don't send spam themselves, but use botnets, or 'zombie armies', of malware-infected computers to distribute their spam for them, almost always without the owners of the infected computers being aware.

The world's top ten countries relaying spam include:

1. United States

2. China

3. Russia

4. Belarus

5. Ukraine

6. India

7. Taiwan

8. Italy

9. South Korea

10. Iran
