Mumbai: Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces today announced it will be opening two new Gateway brand hotels in Chandigarh and Ludhiana, thus taking the brand's total portfolio to 36 across the country.

Taj Hotels, a part of Tata Group's Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), will develop a 100-room property in Chandigarh in association with the Hind Motors Group, whereas in Ludhiana, it will partner with Sapna Hospitality to build a 125-room hotel.

"A key component of our domestic growth strategy is to tap prominent economic, commercial and industrial centres. Chandigarh and Ludhiana fit well into this strategy as they are a hub of commercial activity across critical industry sectors. The Gateway Hotel would bring world-class hospitality to both these cities," Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces CEO and Managing Director Raymond Bickson said in a statement here.

The Group would be adding two new hotels every month under the Gateway brand, he said.

The brand, launched in September 2008, recently opened two properties in Jodhpur and Ahmedabad and announced a new project at Bhandup in suburban Mumbai.

Currently, it is present across a range of important business and leisure destinations such as Bangalore, Agra, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Madurai, Coonoor, Chikmagalur, Calicut and Cochin.
