Puducherry: Opposition Congress has demanded a CBI probe into the charge that Education Minister PML Kalyanasundaram engaged a proxy to write the class 10th supplementary SSLC exam in a school in Tirunelveli recently, a charge rubbished by the minister.

"A CBI probe is necessary as the issue relates to two states. We are seeking a CBI probe into the matter which is a serious," Union minister of state in PMO V Narayanasami said here yesterday.

PCC leader A V Subramanian said the Lt Governor should recommend a CBI probe into the episode. "This is a serious development particularly as it involves the Education Minister," he said.

Rubbishing the charge, Kalayanasundaram termed it as 'politically motivated' and said he was ready to face any probe.

He claimed he had sat for the test on September 29, but could not write the exam the next day as he had to attend an official meeting.

Kalyanasundaram had first appeared for SSLC exam in 1991 and passed in three of five subjects, except Science and Social Sciences. He applied for the supplementary exam held on September 29 and 30 stating his centre of preference as Tindivanam.

Sources said Tamil Nadu education authorities have since ordered a probe into the complaint.
