Puducherry: French Naval Ship BCR Somme will dock at Puducherry (a former French colony) on May 8 and 9, with its 20 member crew offering voluntary services at an NGO in the union territory.

A press release from the French Consul General's office here today said the crew would on May 8 offer their services at 'Santhosha Nanban' a Non Governmental social service organisation, which looks after abandoned and street children.

The staff would, as per French naval tradition, take up maintenance work at the premises of the organisation, besides engaging themselves in painting activities, it said.

Some inmates of 'Santhosha Nanban' would also visit the ship on the afternoon of May 8.

Rear Admiral Bruno Nielly, Chief of Staff of French Forces of Indian Ocean, would call on Lt Governor Dr Iqbal Singh at Raj Nivas before wrapping up the visit on May 9, the release said.
