Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday reportedly distanced itself from the controversial issue of 'love jihad' and denied having it as part of its agenda for discussion during the two-day state executive council meet in Mathura.
On the first day of the party meet, BJP had accused Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi government of “promoting love jihad” in the state.
However, SP general secretary Naresh Agarwal denied the charges and reportedly said that the BJP is attempting to find a politics and religion in the name of love.
The term allegedly refers to conversion of non-Muslim girls to Islam by feigning love.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to address the state executive today.
While BJP national president Amit Shah was expected to attend the meet on Saturday, he was later represented by party leader Kalraj Mishra.
The meeting is being held barely three months after the party's thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh he where BJP won 71 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats.
The meet is also expected to discuss the law and order situation in the state in the wake of recnt communal tensions and draft action plan for the 2017 Assembly elections.
