New Delhi: The Centre has sought a report from Uttar Pradesh government on the issue of alleged abduction and rape of a girl in Meerut district after forcible religious conversion.

In a communication, the Home Ministry has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to give a detailed factual report on the alleged incident at the earliest, official sources said.

Earlier, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said the Centre will seek a report from the state government.

"Since the matter has been raised in the House (Lok Sabha), we will seek a report on this incident of rape in Meerut," he told reporters outside Parliament.

In Lok Sabha, BJP member Rajinder Aggarwal today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged abduction and rape of a girl in Meerut district after forcible religious conversion.

This led to a verbal clash between BJP and SP members, with the latter protesting against the BJP's charges. Some members, including Giriraj Singh, were also heard demanding President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh.
