Kolkata: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would address two rallies on March 25, one in Alipurduar in north Bengal and another here at the Sahid Minar.

"Yes Rahulji is coming on March 25. As of now it has been decided that Rahulji will hold two rallies, one at the Sahid Minar here and another at Alipurduar in north Bengal. The details of the meetings are yet to be finalised," state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury told.

He pointed out that Shahid Minar was under the Defence ministry after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation did not give permission for the rally to be held either at the Netaji Indoor Stadium or in Park Circus Maidan.

Chowdhury earlier in the morning had accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of trying to prevent Gandhi from holding a meeting in the state by denying permission.

"If the ruling party prevents Rahul Gandhi from coming to the state by misusing power, it is a matter of regret," Chowdhury, also Union Minister of State for Railways, had said.

Sources in the TMC-controlled KMC, however, said that according to instruction by the Election Commission parks could not be provided for holding political meetings.
