Angelo Matthews’ acrobatic effort ‘off the field’ seems to have tested ICC's law books.

The Indian Premier League is gone…. The T20 World Cup has come… Well, there is no end to entertainment for cricket lovers in India… One goes, another comes…!!!

Hypocrites: BCCI or ICC?

Call it BCCI’s hypocrisy or ICC’s duplicity; it doesn’t matter, for many believe BCCI controls the ICC, no matter what reasons are given to them to prove the stated ‘fact’ wrong.

The second coming of the Indian Premier League was bigger and classier (I missed the slaps though!). It was a great safari of thirty seven amazing evenings of my kinda cricket. There’s one thing I must admit though, it did become a bit more of a routine rather than pleasure (a good, recently recession-kicked friend disagrees though - says it helped him ‘therapeutically’ in curing the post-unemployment blues! Not to mention his happy beer belly).

The astute player that he is, Shane Warne has an uncanny knack of unearthing hidden talent and keeping faith in it. He does not even hesitate to unleash it in crunch situations in order to get the best out of them. He did it with Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Swapnil Asnodkar, Dinesh Shankule, Neeraj Patel in the first season of IPL that ultimately helped his team win the crown despite not having any big names in its ranks.

It often becomes painful when you are supposed to write the obituary of a man you loved and admired the most. Ask those who wrote Nehru’s obituary. But as a cricket writer, I can say that it’s more painful to write a match report when the team you fancy, loses without giving a fight. I and my fellow sports writers in media are feeling the same at the moment.

If anyone thought that IPL 2009 would be an extension of its inaugural season, he could not have been further off the mark!

These lines from Westlife best describe the Kevin Pietersen phenomenon in world cricket today. It’s not the form which is keeping KP in news off late, but it is his off field remarks and actions which are being scrutinized and debated all across UK and in the cricketing fraternity to an extent that it threatens English cricket’s, arguably, brightest talent ever. Though, some may argue in favour of Ian Botham for that eulogy.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. That is exactly how the Indian team’s match saving performance on the last two days of the Napier Test can be aptly summed up as. Staring defeat in its face at the end of Day 3 after being made to follow on, India’s famed batting line-up came to the rescue and grinded the Kiwi bowlers for two full days, denying them a hard fought victory.

In times of recession if there is any stock that is on the rise, it is that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, aka MSD, and why not? Captain of the Indian cricket team (and a successful one at that) in all forms, darling of the masses, icon of the youth, Mahi’s magical touch turns copper into gold (or that’s what it seems).

It must have been a ‘eureka’ moment for John Buchanan when the idea of ‘rotating captains’ or ‘multiple captains’ struck him. Excited with the thought of revolutionizing the game of cricket, Buchanan brought the idea into limelight… little knowing that the concept would be least welcome.
