Out of the 40 Assembly seats in Goa, Congress could only garner 16 in 2007. This in turn led to a hung assembly.

But Congress with its Chief Digambar Kamat managed to form the government with the support of like-minded parties.

The important parties in the state are BJP, NCP, Maharashtrawadi Gamonatak Party etc. Being a small Assembly, even a swing of a few seats changes the equation in the state quite drastically.
