Till 2002 Manipur had a bad track record of not a single government completing a five term in office. The politicians with maneuvers had managed to create a history of toppling governments mid way.

But in 2002 with Congress coming to power at the helm with Okram Ibobi Singh things changed. He not only managed to complete the first five year term but also came to power for a second time.

After coming to power again in 2007 he strengthened his power with enhanced numbers in the Assembly. With the 2012 elections Ibobi is eyeing a hat-trick. All through this CPI has been its main ally.
