No prosecution under anti-bonded labour law?

No prosecution seems to have taken place under anti-bonded labour law since it was enacted over 34 years ago by the Delhi Government.

The Supreme Court expressed its displeasure against the Centre for keeping on hold the funds for conducting a survey of bonded labour in Andhra Pradesh and sought an explanation from it.

After intervention by NHRC, the Orissa government has abolished the `bartan` system prevalent in some areas in the state under which upper caste people used to extract work from members of some communities for a pittance.
